Below is the typical format for a 10 athlete court.
Athletes will have to check in at the control table between 8:30-8:50am.
A player’s meeting will take place at 8:50am
First round will begin at 9:15am.
Before each round, each pair will draw a card to determine the order of the start and who will start on the King’s/Queen’s side.
There will be nine 15-minute rounds in total.
Each round consists of 5 pairs playing King’s/Queen’s style.
Athletes will pick up a new partner each round.
The pairings for each round have been pre-determined and must be followed.
Attached you’ll see the full timed schedule.
After round 5 an extended break (20 mins) has been scheduled for lunch.
A 10-minute warm up has been scheduled upon return.
-
A team on the challenger’s side will always serve.
Points are only scored on King’s/Queen’s side.
Missed serves do not count as a point, unless it is the 3rd missed serve in a row.
Each team is responsible for keeping track and submitting their own score at the end of each round, at the tournament control table.
A 60 second warning will be given to teams before the end of the each round.
Transition:When losing a rally on the King’s/Queen’s side, the team must retrieve the ball and return to the challenger side from outside the posts.
The challenging side can transition to King’s/Queen’s side by going under the net.
The challenging side that loses the point, must retrieve the ball.
Players on the challenging side that lost rally, must be fully off, before the next challenging team can serve the next ball.
-
The athlete with the most total individual points scored after 9 rounds is crowned King or Queen.
If two or more athletes are tied in total points, resolve the tie using the following steps in sequence:
The athlete with the highest single-round score ranks higher.
If still tied, compare the second-highest round, third-highest round, and so on.
Athlete A: Highest round = 18 points, second highest = 15 points.
Athlete B: Highest round = 18 points, second highest = 16 points.
Athlete C: Highest round = 19 points, second highest = 13 points
Athlete C wins the tiebreaker, Athlete B finishes second.

Officiating Rules:
All players are responsible for fairly officiating the competition.
Net Rules:
Contact with the net by a player between the antennae, during the action of playing the ball, is a fault. The action of playing the ball includes (among others) take-off, hit (or attempt) and landing.
Players may touch the post, ropes, or any other object outside the antennae, including the net itself, provided that it does not interfere with the play.
When the ball is driven into the net, causing it to touch an opponent, no fault is committed.
Hand Setting Rule – 16U and younger divisions only.
A player may have a double contact on their second contact when completing a set to their teammate using an overhand pass provided the ball has a trajectory perpendicular to the line of the player’s hands, shoulders, and hips and the double contact involves only the hands.
Queens/King’s side Serve reception - 16U and younger
The athletes on the King’s or Queen’s side must switch positions every serve receive.
No overhand passing on serve receive. No overhand passing during a rally unless it is a hard-driven ball.
Coaching:
Coaching is not allowed at King & Queen of the Beach events.
