2025 S&C Pilot Program

The S&C pilot aims to test a support program focused on the physical development of athletes. Traditionally, Team Ontario programs have concentrated on players' technical and tactical training. However, we recognize that the needs of targeted athletes vary. Some targeted athletes may benefit from a greater emphasis on physical development, particularly during puberty when they can experience accelerated growth in muscle mass, strength and power. This pilot project will allow the OVA to explore a physical development approach to understand how to incorporate such support within our Team Ontario programs, aiming to better meet the needs of athletes. Additionally, this program intends to highlight the benefits of deliberate strength training and encourage increased participation in S&C programs by OVA athletes.

  • Selected athletes will commit to a 4-month intensive strength and conditioning program designed to enhance their speed, strength, muscle mass and power, thereby improving their volleyball performance. Initial testing will be conducted to establish benchmarks. Athletes will perform the prescribed workouts independently at home, necessitating access to a fully equipped gym. Continuous support from OVA’s Strength & Conditioning coach will be provided, along with guidance from a nutritionist to ensure proper dietary support for training.

At the conclusion of the program, testing will be repeated to evaluate improvements and determine the program's effectiveness. To maximise gains, athletes will be advised to limit participation in other athletic programs during this period.
